Fiddlers Hearth Public House

When I think of a Celtic Pub my mind tends to drift towards good food, great spirits and intoxicating Celtic rhythms. Fiddlers Hearth  is located downtown South Bend at 127 North Main St. and has a perfect blend of the three.

I am a member of the East Race Whitewater Kayak Club located a couple blocks from the pub. Many times after kayaking the East Race some of us from the group would meet at Fiddlers for food, drinks and local entertainment.

At Fiddlers Hearth you can find a menu that reflects the tradition of seven Celtic nations. I find it hard to refuse some good fish and chips. Fiddlers is also known for great beer and hold a gold standard pint certification from Guinness. This means they know their beer!

Now that your belly is full and your spirit has been elevated by the perfectly presented Guinness it must be getting close to 8:30, did I mention it's Wednesday night? Perfect! It's time for the Acoustic open stage hosted by Al Kniola of The Back Porch on 88.1 FM WFPV.

Onstage the spotlight exhibits flamboyant musicians perfecting their craft. Expect to hear anything from traditional Irish pub songs to Prince. Also you will find musicians presenting their original work. It's a great way to relax and enjoy some local talent in the comfort of a public house.

Every Wednesday night at 8:30 Fiddlers Hearth opens the stage for local musicians. On the weekends the pub opens the stage to acts from around the country. So bring a friend and enjoy some great food and drinks. You will find an atmosphere vibrant with culture resonating local talent. Cheers!

  1. Hey there,
So glad you decided to blog about the night life of Michiana. Fiddler's Hearth is a great location for families, too. I've often cycled there with mine. One of our favorite memories was when Siochain, a band from Indy, played there. My daughter danced so well that the lead vocalist saluted her from the stage and directed the server to "...take a t-shirt to our favorite dancer." Great fun, indeed!

  2. I am all for hyping a place like Fiddler's. It's definitely going to be one of the prized spots on my blog for Michiana's most original food. The place is unique beyond anything else in the area! Half of the fun is taking a friend/friends with you and figuring out what to order (since the items are unlike anything many people have tried) over a few flavorful beers. The environment is traditionally "of the island" and very comforting, and quality of the food equals the quality of their whiskey list. The sad thing is that lots of people go there to drink, but don't realize on the dinner that they're missing out on. I've also enjoyed playing a few open-mics there myself. Great establishment, great blog!
